Blog Tour, Review, & Giveaway: Remy by Katy Evans

Book Title: Remy
Author: Katy Evans
Date of Publication: November 26, 2013
Publisher: Gallery Books
Blog Tour Hosted by: The SUBClub Books
Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.

Through it all, there's been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he's ever had to fight for.

Review

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As with the previous books in this series, Real and Mine, Remy was raw, passionate, sexy, and emotional. I really enjoyed that we get to see inside of Remy’s head and his thought during pivotal moments between him and Brooke.
“You’re mine. My obsession. My dreams. My hope. My heart.
Remy is definitely an alpha male and we certainly see this in his POV. From the moment he puts his eyes on Brooke, he stakes his claim.  Remy’s possessiveness is taken to a different level in this story. He is stubborn, loving, passionate, and all male. Any fan of Remy is going to devour this as we get to see every side of Remy-the good and the bad.
I enjoyed that the author shared moments in Remy, where I wondered what Remy was thinking. To his “black” moments,  to fights, to his declaration of love to Brooke.  To admitting that he is capable and worthy of love. Remy is raw and exposed. We are given the chance to see every emotion-love, passion, hurt, and even betrayal. Your heart truly goes out to Remy as you get to experience is inner thoughts.
“Protecting you is my privilege. I will protect you and everything that you value as if it were mine”
I loved the ending of Remy. It was everything I wanted and more. To be able to experience his happy ending was beyond words. It was amazing to see a dark, broken man change over time. Remy was always a beautiful soul, but it took love to discover this.

Review

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
“I chose to be with him. I. Chose.”

Better stars where Good left off.  Now that everyone knows about Mark and Cadence they are left to deal with the aftermath. Mark and Cadence are in love more than ever, and are determined for their relationship to work. However, when Mark’s secret comes to light, things don’t go as planned. I cannot say I expected this secret. When we learn about it, I appreciate Mark even more. Through the darkness he was able to find light, in Cadence. In spite of pain, he opened up his heart to someone when it may have even seemed possible before.

“Because I love you. Madly. You’ve infiltrated my brain. Driven me crazy.”

We truly get to see Mark and Cadence, grow as individuals as well as a couple. They argue, they make up. They are like any other couple, but with obstacles. These obstacles include Cadence’s family that will not accept that Cadence has found love with her now former teacher. The realism aspect of this book is what I found very interesting. The characters were so relatable and real. S. Walden writes with such true emotion and conviction. She holds nothing back. She allows us to see her characters are they are, flaws and all. Her story pushes the envelope makes you uncomfortable, but isn’t that what reading is about? To challenge the reader and make them go places they didn’t they could go? Or think about things that they wouldn’t have before? You question your beliefs and that is why I enjoy this author’s style of writing. She challengers her readers.

“I fell in love with for so many reasons. You make my heart feel. You bring joy to my life”

I really enjoyed Good, but Better brought this series to a whole different level. Mark has such a beautiful soul. For him to love Cadence with such passion was amazing.  Every word you felt. Every emotion was experienced as I read this story. I laughed, cried, and swooned. I read this all in one sitting because putting it down was not an option.

If you think you are in for your typical student-teacher rainbows and roses relationship, you’re wrong. If you are looking for a heart-felt, emotional, gripping book about forbidden love and how it is conquered then you NEED this book. If you believe that love is above all things, this is a must-read. Love never fails. Love conquers.

“I’m gonna love you for the rest of my life. You know that? Even when my mind goes and I’ve no idea who or where I am, I’ll know you. And I’ll love you.”

Teaser

Mark sat in his car staring through the windshield. Any minute now, Cadence, dressed in graduation robe and cap, would round the corner with her brother and Fanny. All he wanted was to see her smile.

He knew her parents didn’t show up. They made their intentions clear three nights ago when Cadence called home to speak to her mother. After she hung up, she told Mark she didn’t care that they refused to attend, but he awoke later that night to the sounds of her soft cries. She was curled up lying close to the edge of the bed, far away from him. He reached out to touch her, then stopped. Something told him not to, that it’d be disastrous if he tried to comfort her. So he left her alone. The next morning she was bright and cheery and as fake as he’d ever seen her.
He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. “Please smile. Please smile. Please smile.”
He thought back to the first time he saw her really smile. She grinned at him on the side of Highway 28, but it wasn’t until she sat on a metal bench in the bus parking lot on the first day of school that he saw a real smile. She giggled about the names she’d been calling him, revealing pretty teeth with one imperfection. She had a calcium deposit on her eye tooth. Yeah, he’d noticed. And he recalled feeling like a total creep for liking it so much.

Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.

Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket's gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.

When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?

I glance at Trey; he looks like an advertisement for Calvin Klein. Wearing only dark, athletic boxers, he’s something out of a catalog or a warrior movie. Blushing deeply, I want to crawl under the rock I’m on. “Wade into the water together. We should tie you two so that you’re face-to-face with both your heads above the water,” Jax says. Trey nods, extending his hand for me to take.
Avoiding looking at him, I stand up, walking to the water’s edge on my own. Dipping my toes in the water, I pull them back sharply. “It’s freezing!” I glower at them, hearing my voice echo off the walls again.
“It is,” Trey agrees, scooping me up in his arms and wading out quickly into the water before I can object further. When he is chest deep, he says softly in my ear, “Breathe.”
Clinging to him tightly with my arms around his neck, I inhale deeply before muttering, “Shh...you’re interrupting my revenge plotting.”
“If you survive this, I’ll insist that you learn to swim,” he says, sounding annoyed as Jax wades to us with a line, circling us.
“If I survive this, I’m killing you,” I reply dryly, feeling the rope tense, drawing me tighter against Trey’s warm body.
A small smile touches his lips at my comment. “How do you propose to do that?” He gazes into my eyes as Jax knots us together.
“I’ll let you spend some sleepless nights worrying about that,” I reply, my teeth beginning to chatter as the cold water is chilling me to the bone.

                       About the Author
I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I’m writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they’re  real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I’ll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter…and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my “writing uniform” consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed.

Review

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Weight of Words was like a breath of fresh air. My heart went pitter patter in this one.  This story was so well-written, heart-wrenching and gave me all the FEELS.
Aubrey Price is in her last year of college where she finds herself falling for the TA (teachers assistant) in her senior Shakespeare English class. Daniel Grant is intelligent, hot, and off limits to students.  This may be a serious problem as Daniel’s past plays a huge role in why he cannot pursue Aubrey. However, the heart wants whom the heart wants and that is an even bigger problem for Daniel and Aubrey.
Talk about romance! This story brought me back to my high school days where I read a lot of Shakespeare. Daniel and Aubrey connect through their love of literature and it is a common thread throughout their relationship. I fell in love with all the sonnets and the references to Shakespeare throughout this book. It added such depth and character to the story. It gave it such an elegant and romantic feeling throughout. I absolutely love Daniel and Aubrey. Their characters are real and relatable. Your heart goes out to them as you watch them fall for each other. While their relationship is forbidden, their hearts believe differently. You truly feel how they yearn for each other, as they are unable to be together.
This is not your typical student-teacher ish romance. It is so much more than that. It’s about love not knowing boundaries. The writing? Flawless! Although a bit slower, than my usual reads, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Daniel and Aubrey’s story was beautiful and magical.  Love definitely conquers all. I cannot wait to see what is in store for them in the future.
