Synopsis:
Some men play to win...
Lily would do anything to save the Frazer Center for the Arts—even take on the infamous billionaire Calder Cunningham.
The Cunninghams have long held a reputation for being eccentric—and secretive. When Lily breaks onto their estate, she only wants to find and reason with Calder. The Cunningham family was the Frazer Center’s largest benefactor for years—until Calder took over the family funds and broke the pledge contract without warning. Now the Center is on the brink of closing, and she’s desperate to save the institution her father founded.
But Calder turns out to be more than she bargained for. He’s willing to consider her pleas—but for a price. Lily must indulge his whims, play along with his games—all while confined to his mysterious mansion—or she’ll never get the funds to save the Center. She must decide: play the mouse to his cat, or lose the organization she and her father spent their blood, sweat, and tears to build.
My Review:
I would like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC of HIS WICKED GAMES for review.
The female lead in this story is Lily, a feisty, determined, impulsive woman, who is on a mission to confront Calder and attempt to convince him to pay up the money that she feels is owed to her-- or the non-profit organization she runs with her father, rather-- money that was promised to them by Calder's late father. She has big plans for setting Calder, who has a reputation of being quite the playboy, and who Lily suspects is being selfish with his inheritance, straight and saving her center from closing.
Lily shows up at the Cunningham estate ready for battle-- determined to speak to Calder, who has been avoiding her like the plague, by any means necessary. But once she comes face to face with Calder, things change and she decides to play into his competitive side. She agrees to play Calder's games-- if she wins, he pays up. But if he wins, well...
When first reading the blurb for His Wicked Games, I was definitely intrigued. There were certain aspects of the story that were a little predictable for me. I guessed Calder's big secret pretty early on, even though Lily was clueless, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable for me. I have to say, though, that a lot of the story wasn't what I expected at all. This story was definitely much more than the usual billionaire setting his sites on a naive young woman.
I really enjoyed the characters, and absolutely loved the setting. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend 3 days holed up in a huge, mysterious mansion with secret passageways and gorgeous, playful billionaire to have a little fun with? Sign me up. Lily was a tough girl, which I loved, and Calder was so dreamy. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun, quick read...anyone who might want to step away from the crazy angst that we read a lot about in contemporary romances these days. This book was enjoyable, fun, sexy and really hard to put down! Really looking forward to book two in this series!
