Review: Tangled by Emma Chase

★★★★

Synopsis

Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without.

Review

Thank you to the author for providing with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh Drew Evans….you have stolen my heart….let me count the ways…
But, first let me tell you what an egotistical jerk you are! I wanted to slap you several times and knock some sense into you!

Did I like this book? Absolutely! Why? Because it was witty, funny, charming. It really was the best male POV of I’ve ever read in my life. Yes, ever.

Charming Drew Evans give his account of his story of how he found love with Katherine  (Kate) Brooks, when he never thought it would. The story starts off with Drew explaining how he has been out of commission for a week because of a “flu”. However, when his sister and work colleague show up at his place, we soon discover the flu, is really a broken heart. Drew gives his account of how he met Kate, his heartache, and everything after.

“Once I’m done, I’m DONE. I’m not the kind of guy who rides the same roller coaster twice… Don’t look at me that way. I’m not a bad guy. I don’t lie; I don’t sandbag women with flowery words about a future together and love at first sight… Okay, maybe that’s not exactly true. But I can’t help it if they see me, fuck me and suddenly want to bear my children.”

I loved how the male point of view was finally done with justice! It was accurate and honest. The author has a wonderful writing style that allowed you to experience Drew’s story and be immersed in his journey in realizing what love really is. This is not your typical romance novel. Drew is not your typical hero. He’s a jerk. And that’s putting it mildly. He makes no apologies for his womanizing ways. However, don’t let that deter you. You WILL fall in love with him, without realizing it. Kate was such a refreshing character. I loved that the author gave us a beautiful, educated intelligent woman. While Drew was the “big dog” at his firm, Kate easily was looked at in the same regard among her peers. We need more strong female leads like her!

I truly enjoyed this refreshing story. Not many authors could pull this off, but Emma Chase did. Reading from a male POV put a unique twist on the story. I loved watching Drew Evans grow as a person and as a man. Most importantly, I loved watching him fall in love with Kate. I recommend this story to anyone who is looking for a real (honest) love story.
