My Review:
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
I was asked to review Emerge and ultimately decided to move it up a bit on my TBR list because I was in the mood for a sweet, sigh-worthy read. It turned out to be just what I needed! I won't go into too much detail about the plot, as the blurb gives a pretty good idea of what the book entails and I wouldn't want to spoil anything.
The first half of this story, dealing with Laney and Evan was so disgustingly sweet-- I was in love. Best friends who eventually realize their romantic feelings for each other? Yes, please! Even is so dreamy and is really too good to be true. The love he has for Laney is lovely and I was swooning and sighing all over the place while falling in love with the idea of these two together.
Their friendship is beautiful; they're honest and open with each other, and show each other unconditional love and support no matter what. I fell head-over-heels for Evan, he's the perfect boyfriend. The perfect friend. Just perfect. But when they're separated after high school and attending different colleges, things start to fall apart for them.
Enter Dane.
At this point, I'm Team Evan all the way and refused to fall for Dane or accept Laney's attraction to him. I got it, she was miserable being away from everything she knew, being away from Evan, but she NEEDED to be with Evan. No matter what. Anyone else just wouldn't do and I wouldn't have it.
But he did it... slowly but surely, Dane pulled me over to the dark side and I was rooting for him. Sort of. He's wonderful. He's thoughtful and sexy and charming. He's supportive and understanding of Laney's insecurities and fears, of her conflicting feelings about him and Evan... he, too, could earn the title of perfect boyfriend. My thoughts at this point? Damn. Damn. Damn! But I was still on the fence a bit. I mean, I couldn't just abandon Evan... how could I live with myself? Decisions, decisions...
But as adorable and swoon-worthy as Evan is, Dane blows him out of the water in the sex appeal department... Holy crap, he is hot. So yeah, I'm on team Dane now. I think... although I still heart Evan. But for those of you who don't enjoy a love triangle, don't fret... there's no cheating.
As for the book as a whole, I gave it four stars instead of five because some of the dialogue was...too good to be true. Both of the guys were incredible and sweet and so swoon-worthy, but a few things (just a few) didn't seem very realistic to me. But that's just my opinion. Now, this didn't make it any less enjoyable for me, because I love mushy-gushy, disgustingly sweet stories; it was all good! S.E. Hall definitely wrote a story that captures your heart and will have you invested in the characters and falling in love with them all for different reasons. The supporting characters were amazing. Tate, Bennett, Sawyer, Zach, they were all so lovable and fun. I definitely recommend this one for anyone who loves a coming of age story and has a sweet tooth for plenty of romance. There is a slight cliffhanger at the end of Emerge. A decision is made, so it's not a terribly torturous ending, but there's definitely more story left to be told. Book two will focus on our lovely Evan.
